Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some faqs and facts that might interest you.

Q. Is the WhiteOak B&B close to events and attractions?

A. Just within a10 to 15 minutes drive guests can find small family attractions on up to major parks and shopping venues. Within 30 minutes all the county can open up to you. See the Things To Do pages for further information.

Q. How does one get to the White Oak B&B and get around to all the events and attractions?

A. It is most advisable to have your own transportation. There is no public transportation available as the B&B is located 3 1/2 miles in farm land country. It is difficult to get a taxi and making train or plane connections would be very "chancey" at best. Although walking in the neighborhood is a great experience, there is nothing in the way of events or attractions within walking distance. The best is to have your own car and then everything is only minutes away and very easy to get to as we are very centrally located to them.

Q. Who can stay at the B&B?

A. Just about anybody, we have no problem making room for children and special situations. Handicapped or elderly individuals may wish to contact us directly regarding accomodations and eating arrangements. Please, no pets.

Q. What can I do at the B&B?

A. With two very large dining tables for games, etc., and a large lawn for outside activities, there's lots to do at the B&B. Or, perhaps you may just like to sit in the "Courtin' Swing" and watch the landscape and the valley below. Walks are also our favorites, as we can stroll up the hill to see the neighbors and the farm. The deer in the pens are "bottle-feds" and very people-friendly. We have lots of carrots and apples to feed them by hand. Use your imagination - there's lots to do at the B&B!

Q. Is there any time to stay at the B&B that is better than others?

A. Yes, there is. With regard to availability, as we so often have our weekends filled with the Getaways, Seminars and Retreats, it really is a better time to look for availability during the week. The summer is at least rather free on weekends, but keep an eye on the Availability Calendars to check to see if there just may be time free for a weekend stay.

Q. Just what kind of a place is the White Oak B&B?

A. Structurally, it is orginally an Amish farm house that has been converted to also have electricity. It is typically Amish as the main part of the house was built first, with the kitchen being the largest room and all across the front of the house. Two other rooms were connected, the bedroom for the mother and father, and the sitting room. The second floor was built with the children in mind and had four large rooms that could be used almost as "dormitories" for however many children were in the family. Six months later the smaller house, the "Daadi Haus" was built to house the original owner's mother-in-law. This house is directly attached with a common wall. If you were to look at other Amish houses you would see principally the same pattern of construction, a main house and a "Daadi Haus".
The house sits on the side of a hill overlooking the valley, and has farm land and many animals around it. It is located in a beautiful setting.
We have kept the interior simple in its appointments, a little more than the Amish would do, but still retaining the old flavor. We hope it is comfortable and a place for your activities and enjoyment.
